What data Shopify Payments collects
Your privacy policy must disclose each of the following data types when you use Shopify Payments.
When does Shopify Payments trigger privacy obligations?
Activation Threshold
Shopify Payments becomes active the moment you integrate it into your storefront—even in test mode. At that point, Shopify begins collecting customer names, emails, billing/shipping addresses, purchase history, IP addresses, and browsing behavior within your store. Payment card data flows through Shopify's PCI-compliant infrastructure, but your store remains the data controller under GDPR Article 4(7) and CCPA Section 1798.100.
