How do autonomous AI agents handle user privacy?
They don't. Not by default, anyway.
Autonomous agents follow patterns learned from millions of code repositories. Those patterns include logging frameworks that dump everything to console, analytics libraries that track clicks without consent, session management that stores tokens in localStorage. All perfectly normal in development—all potentially illegal in production.
Consider what happens when Strix builds a user registration flow. Does it hash passwords with bcrypt? Does it log failed login attempts? Does it store IP addresses? Does it send user emails to a third-party validation service? The agent makes these choices based on what "works," not what complies with GDPR Article 32 or CCPA 1798.100.

Start with network traffic. Run the deployed app and watch what it phones home. Every API call, every pixel loaded, every WebSocket connection. If you see domains you don't recognize, investigate immediately.
Check your security headers next. AI agents optimize for speed, not hardening. Missing Content-Security-Policy headers mean third-party scripts can inject anything. Missing HSTS means traffic can downgrade to HTTP. These aren't theoretical—they're lawsuit fuel.
Review database migrations. What columns exist? What's indexed? What's marked as sensitive? Agents don't flag PII—you have to find it yourself.
Search the codebase for telemetry. Grep for analytics, tracking, mixpanel, segment, amplitude, posthog. Read what data each call sends. Most developers are shocked by the answer.
And critically: check your launch checklist before the first real user hits production. AI agents don't ship privacy policies or cookie consent flows unless explicitly told to.
What happens when AI-built apps violate privacy laws?
Liability flows uphill to you.
"But the AI built it" isn't a legal defense. You deployed it. You profited from it. You're the data controller. When the regulator asks for your Article 30 records or your DPIA, they want documents, not excuses about autonomous agents.
The fines scale with revenue, but the real damage is operational. Regulators can order you to delete data, suspend processing, or rebuild systems from scratch. That autonomous agent won't help you there—it's already moved on to its next project.
Strix and similar tools are genuinely impressive. They collapse timelines and unlock ideas that would die in the backlog. But speed without compliance is just speed toward consequences. Every autonomous deployment needs manual review, especially around data flows.
